For a tree to expand and grow upwards, it has to first grow and develop its roots downwards. Without a well established roots foundation, the tree can not continue growing.
Similarly, we all have times when we wish to reach higher and this requires moving 'downwards', including facing darkness, fear, and the unknown. This can be challenging but I try to always remember that it is probably the root developing stage. It means that internal work has to be done for upward growth to take place. I take this time to go inside and connect with myself, with nature and with my family.
On October 7th 2023, every Jewish person (and me among them) and Israel as a nation was forced (consciously or unconsciously) to dig deep into the darkness - to connect with the Jewish roots, with our history, to understand and develop our individual and collective roots. The upward growth will follow.
